Welcome to ResNet@Wayne State

Welcome New and Returning Residents!

Please take the time to read the ResNet policies, which can be found here. You agree to be bound by these policies by using the ResNet and will be held personally accountable for any violations, so you should be aware of them.

Cisco Clean Access

If you are new to ResNet and are running a Microsoft Windows machine, you will be required to install the Cisco Clean Access Agent (CCAA). CCAA will require you to authenticate as a student at WSU by entering your WSU AccessID and password. This is the same ID and password you use to login to Pipeline and Blackboard. Your PC will be check to ensure that it meets our minimum requirements for security updates and anti-virus software/definitions. If you do not meet these minimum requirements, you will be placed in a temporary role which will give you access to the resources you need to bring your system up to them. CCAA will notify you of what you are missing. We strongly recommend installing the Symantec Antivirus amde available free of charge to WSU students at this site.

Cable Routers

This is the time of year that we're flooded with new people on the ResNet and, believe it or not, some people do not read the policy before connecting things to the wall! Cable routers and other devices that provide routing functionality are the main reason for mass outages on the ResNet. By incorrectly connecting one of these devices, residents can make the network unavailable for their entire building. So, we do not allow them on the ResNet. Even if the offending functions are 'disabled'. A violation of this policy will result in a week's suspension of connectivity for the entire apartment and $100 added to the lease. If you have any doubt about a piece of equipment you want to use, send us a note with the manufacturer and model of the device and we'll tell you if it's OK or not. And if you do this before connecting it you won't be subject to the suspension or fee if it turns out to be a banned device.

Help Desk

If you are having problems with your computer or network connection, your first-line of help is the C&IT help desk. You can contact them at 313.577.4778 or via email at helpdesk@wayne.edu. More information, including their hours, can be found at the help desk web site. There is also a PC Clinic which can assist you with hardware upgrades or repairs or cleaning your system of viruses and malware. They are a fee-based service; more information can be found on their site.
